Please check the IQHA web site for complete information on the Hawkeye Classic Show slated for July 6, 7 & 8 at the Iowa Equestrian Center (Kirkwood), Cedar Rapids. This year we’ve added Versatility Ranch Horse Riding, VRH Trail, VRH Reining and VRH Conformation to the show bill. We’ll once again be offering the Hawkeye Classic Ranch Horse Challenge. Exhibitors who want to participate in The Challenge, there is a separate entry of $100 with a payback of 75 percent. Classes in the Challenge include VRH Riding, VRH Trail, VRH Conformation and the corresponding AQHA Ranch Horse Riding Class. Entry forms and information can also be found on the IQHA web site.

Mark your calendar to attend District 2’s Fall Colors Trail Ride scheduled for October 6 & 7 at the Scenic View Ranch in Monona. We are working with ITREC to hopefully do a combined IQHA/ITREC Trail Challenge event that weekend.

Congratulations and welcome to the new IQHA Board of Directors — President Kim Strong; Vice President Lloyd Johanningmeier; Secretary/Treasurer Janet Skola; District Director Jeanine Lowry; Directors at Large Missy Merwald, Kelly Birkenholtz and Mitch Atkins. Hopefully soon, we’ll have new District Directors on the Board for Districts 1, 3 and 4.

The leadership of IQHA has an impact on the tone and environment of our association. President Kim Strong and the Board of Directors are working hard to improve communication between our members. Our objective is to be supportive, positive and good communicators. Every member has a voice and we want to work through issues that need to be resolved and make good things happen. The Board also needs the help of members by volunteering. If each member can volunteer and contribute one or two hours or serve on a committee, we can make IQHA an association to be proud of.

One of my goals this year is to put together an advisory committee that will deal with membership issues and explore/recommend things we can do to provide more benefits and positive experiences to our members. If anyone is interested in serving on a membership committee or any of our other committees, please contact me or any IQHA Board member.

I have also received several messages from IQHA members asking if the Iowa Run will be IQHA Approved. At the writing of this news, the Iowa Run is not IQHA approved. In the future, I am hopeful that the show committee for the Iowa Run will meet with the IQHA Board of Directors to find a positive way for the Iowa Run to be an IQHA approved show. .
